Marco Wellisch, born in Mainz, Germany, discovered his passion for music and DJing early on in a youth center in Mainz. Inspired by iconic bands like Kraftwerk, NWA, 2LifeCrew, and the artists of the Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW), Marco quickly realized that electronic music had a special power over him. Although his initial love for breakdancing was strong, it was soon overshadowed by the hypnotic beats of Grandmaster Flash, Man Parrish, Strafe, Planet Patrol, and Afrika Bambaataa & The Soulsonic Force.
In late 1991, Marco encountered electronic music once again, and this time it had a lasting impact. His collection of vinyl records grew rapidly, and after several private sets, he knew he had to take his passion beyond Mainz's local party scene. Immersing himself in Frankfurt's legendary clubs like Dorian Gray and Omen, he found his musical style. By 1993, he made his first appearance as a resident DJ, and soon after, he began playing in clubs across Frankfurt and beyond. His reputation grew, and by the mid-1990s, Marco had performed in numerous clubs throughout Germany, Ibiza, Holland, Japan, Switzerland, and the USA.
The years that followed saw Marco collaborate with a diverse range of artists, such as Ramin Naghachian and G-Man/RaDiac, leading to the creation of multiple projects and labels like ParaMeta, 12Zoll, and Neural Drift. His musical ventures spanned genres from electro to techno, progressive to psychedelic trance. This eclectic range of styles perfectly matched Marco’s taste, which led to his productions being released on a wide array of labels, including Phobiq, OxyTech, Hushed, KlangWild, Universal Music, BMG, TIP Records, Drizzly, Spirit Zone, Plusquam Records, and Möhre Rekorder.
In the late 1990s, Marco moved to Frankfurt to further pursue his DJ career. In 2008, he relocated to Berlin, where he continues to live and work. In Berlin, Marco founded KlangWild, an event agency that later evolved into the KlangWild music label in December 2012, specializing in electronic dance music. Over the years, Marco has developed several new projects, including Aixo, SimN, Workn, and MarsMadeMan. In 2023, he reactivated and renamed his ElektroAssi project to "EA." In 2021, Marco also launched a new label, Aqumn, which is dedicated to deep techno, contrasting with KlangWild’s broader focus.
Today, Marco Wellisch is firmly rooted in the Progressive Techno and TechHouse scene, though he occasionally produces more chilled and downbeat tracks, like those featured on the Möhre Rekorder label, which also organizes the renowned "WildeMöhreFestival." His passion for experimental downbeats and film music soundtracks became evident after his cinematic debut in *Wildezeiten* and the documentary *Techno ist System Relevant*.
Marco's journey continued in 2023 with exciting new ventures, including his debut on Phobiq Records, an Italian-based techno label founded by Sasha Carassi. His connection to Mustache Crew Records Brasil, along with other collaborations, has further expanded his reach in the global music scene. With each release, Marco's influence continues to grow, establishing him as a key figure in the world of electronic music. Marco's latest release, "Don't Go Too Far Now," is out on ULYSEE RECORDS.
